On this Sunday, I got to the trailhead for Mesa Arch about 1;45 minutes prior to sunrise. Mine was the third car there. By the time I got to the arch, I was the fifth photographer. By the time sunrise came, there were 10 or so photographers and another 10 or so spectators taking in the view. Conditions were excellent with some clouds over the La Sals to the east. Still, it was very clear with high visibility for dozens and dozens of miles, the Colorado River was easily viewable.
This was the last image of the sunset/night shoot at Landscape Arch. While walking along the trail through these fins, I stopped to shoot Orion with Betelgeuse and Sirus. The clouds are illuminated by Moab, I believe. Funny enough, this night temps were just below freezing yet comfortable--i.e. no wind. While thinking like I had the trail conquered by walking like a cat across the well worn snow--i.e. that's ice in other circles--I took a slip and fall on my rear. Nothing other than my pride was hurt. No physical injuries or camera issues though my camera and tripod were perched over my right shoulder at the time. I attribute the lack off issues to be well practiced to falling and willing to land hard on my body instead of stopping things with my hands.
