__________
This image was taken the last morning of my recent trip to the Grand Canyon. I confess, it was really difficult getting out of bed. Almost so much that I would've missed this shot--and a couple others. I remember thinking in bed just prior to the alarm going on, "I got plenty of great images this trip. I can just sleep in bed and be great." Well, I stayed in bed but I didn't get to sleep. In fact, I kept thinking about my decision process of staying in bed. Eventually, I was thinking so much about it I became more awake than when I first woke. That made the decision for me. If I'm not going to sleep I might as well get up, which is precisely what I did.
You can tell from this image there were 20 of my best friends I never met before within 10 feet of me squished against the railing at the tip of Mather Point. If you've been out there you know there's a lot of space on this gigantic rock and piece of concrete. All that room didn't mean there was plenty of space for all of us. Nope, if you were where people thought the action was, then there was no space for you. All I can say is at least the young lady to the right of me was considerate enough not to bump my tripod leg as it shot this image.
Just to be clear, I never say anything to anyone when they get near me at a very popular place. In fact, if I've gotten most of what I need, I normally move if someone asks me nicely. As much as I might belly ache about people walking into the middle of my shot after having been clearly set up without so much of a "hey, how are you" from them, I don't say anything. I figure it's better that way. In the end, I get the picture I want which is usually something completely different than what the average tourist is seeking. And, I don't need the bad "chi" for having been snarky first thing in the morning.
TI think the clouds in this image made it. Without them, the light on the rocks would be totally different and the sky wouldn't look nearly as interesting. Without the clouds, this image wouldn't have worked out.
Cheers
Tom
